CALGARY — The NHL's Los Angeles Kings have loaned defenceman Brandt Clarke to Canada's world junior hockey team ahead of its selection camp for the 2023 world junior championship.

Clarke, selected eighth overall by the Kings in the 2021 NHL draft, has two assists in nine games with Los Angeles this season.

Clarke had two goals and five assists in seven games to help Canada win gold at the 2021 under-18 world championship.

Hockey Canada is hoping to add another NHL player to the roster in 2022 fourth overall pick Shane Wright, but is still awaiting word on his availability from the Seattle Kraken.

Canada kicks off its selection camp for the 2023 world junior team Friday in Moncton, N.B.

The world junior championship starts Dec. 26 in Moncton and Halifax.
